I am a 30 year old woman with a BMI in the healthy range at 24 but am only 7 pounds away from hitting the overweight range. I know how easily 7 pounds can arrive during the holidays and stay around for the year. So, at 5’8” and 158 pounds, it is time to make a change.
Some of you may look at my height, weight and BMI and think I’m not doing so bad and you might be right. But let me add that, according to my body composition scale (another failed idea meant to push me into a health lifestyle), I have a body fat percentage of 37%. I am nearly forty percent fat. Over 32% is considered obese. So, while my BMI tells one story, my body fat percent tells another.
I use food as a reward. I regularly say “I deserve (insert food of choice) for (anything I’ve done)”. Then after eating greasy tacos or a burger and fries (yes I’d love a shake with that!) I generally end up in a food coma and sleep through the next 3 hours of my life as my body struggles to get nutrition from food devoid of anything but fat and chemicals.
Exercise is something I’ve sporadically done in the past, usually coinciding with those 3-5 days at a time that I would try to diet. I have never completed anything major in my life and certainly not a weight loss or fitness plan.
No matter how you look at it, I am not healthy and being healthy is my real goal. But, along with being healthy will come weight loss and fitness achievements. So, my first weight loss goal is to be 145 pounds at the end of P90X. My fitness goal is to be able to run a mile. So here we go…
